It is estimated that much of our illnesses that is experienced by the average person today is caused or related by stress.  Stress fills our everyday lives.  That deadline for a project that is due at work, getting the kids to school and activities, and even balancing budgets in a time of skyrocketing fuel and food costs.  All of this can add heavy stress that many times can lead to health problems both big and small.

Just as many things in our life, there is good stress and bad stress.  Good stress, helps a person focused and become energized to complete a task. Stress is a biological response that helped our ancestors survives life or death situations.    Considering that today most of us are not usually faced with situations of our ancestors, stress takes on an entirely different shape that is more psychological than physical.  In this sense, stress can have a bad effect upon our body where it was once designed to protect us.  Too much stress the body responds negatively that can lead to stress related health problems.

Stress related health problems can range from minor symptoms, emotional and physiological symptoms to major health issues.  Feeling a little stressed that your head hurts?  Headaches are one of the stress related health problems a person can have.  Tight muscles in your neck from stress can lead to headaches as well as just tension from worry.  Disorientation or the inability to focus can be a symptom of stress.  The emotional state of the mind is in direct correlation on how a person can manage and handle stress.  This stress can lead to psychological health problems such as depression, fatigue, chest pains or rapid heart rates.  Stress can lead to more serious symptoms like obesity or make other illnesses difficult to manage such as diabetes.

It is also being discovered that other health problems are related to stress or contributes to illness.  Too much stress will wear and tear a body down quickly that can lead to the body’s inability to fight off infections, lead to digestive problems even make it difficult to conceive a child.  Not only does it grind at the body physically it also takes its toll upon the mind mentally causing anxiety and depression.  If stress is not managed it can lead to more health related problems such as eating disorders and substance abuse.
